Elpidio Quirino : Ilocano's Hero

          Elpidio Quirino y Rivera was born on November 16, 1890, at the Vigan Provincial Jail in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. He is the third child of Mariano Quirino and Gregoria Rivera y Mendoza. He was  one of the most illustrious sons of Ilocos Sur who became the sixth president of the Philippines. In his early life, he was raised by his parents with respect and good values. He was taught with the value of education and perseverance at an early age which led him into living in a small province to leading the whole country.            In 1915, he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the the University of the Philippines and passed the bar examination in the same year. After passing the bar exam, he began practicing law and entered politics. Protecting Every Child : Ending Violence, Building Hope

The 2024 national children’s month celebration brings attention to the urgent and concerning issues of violence against children living in the Philippines. Every year, various forms of abuse including physical abuse, emotional abuse and sexual abuse is experienced by thousands of children. This national children’s month serves as an awareness, not only to call attention from the whole world but also to actively practice ways in preventing such violence done on children. It highlights the need for a more powerful and comprehensive approach to strengthen the protection of children.             Ending the continuous violence on children requires the full support and help of one another including the government. This step is needed in addressing such violence done on children whether in their own home or outside.
